The Complete In Fidelytie

Our Price: $15.50

This is a comic demonstration of "hi fidelytie" that claims to be "the record to end all high fidelitie records." The liner notes continue, "In fact, it is questionable as to whether it might not be the last hi fidelyty record. In many cases the user will find it impossible to play,—but no matter; that is not necessarily unusual for hi fidelity." But unusual this is: the collection of sounds on this record range from jets and steam trains to a baby's wailing to Mexican firecrackers and a highly distorted church organ.

Voices of the Sky

Our Price: $15.50

If you can't get enough of your airline attendant's safety announcements at the beginning of your flight, make sure you check out this historical recording. Or, if you relish the power of a jet's roar, take the time to compare the sounds of many types of aircraft captured here. This recording corresponded with the height of popular fascination with high fidelity recording of natural and manmade sounds. From the liner notes: "Tighten your safety belt, locate the nearest emergency exit, study the instructions for inflating your life jacket and hearken to the pert stewardess listing the exotic ports of call on the flight plan...[and then] turn up the sound to runway volume."

Voice of the Storm

Our Price: $15.50

Emory Cook braved "tempest-torn mountaintops,...the raging edge of the sea and...tropical downpours" to collect the natural sounds of thunder, rain and wind, as well as the sounds of wildlife anticipating a storm. Voice of the Sea

Our Price: $15.50

From sea to shining sea, this collage of ocean sounds was recorded along the Atlantic coast (Gloucester, Massachusetts to Mt. Desert Island, Maine) and the Pacific coast (Mazatlan, Mexico). Listen to the water as it laps against a pebbly beach or rages against rocky cliffs. Hear tug boats, ferry boats, fishing boats and the USS Columbus navigate the waters. This hi-fi recording, made during a height of fascination with new recording technologies, comes guaranteed with foghorn accents and a whistle from the Queen Mary.

Ionosphere

Our Price: $15.50

Did you know that the ionosphere makes noise? Or that that noise is actually possible to record? This recording shows that the ionosphere, part of the upper atmosphere that is ionized by solar radiation, can indeed be recorded. Here you have the opportunity to listen to the electrical static in stereo synchronized from recordings made at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington DC and at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. Incidentally, this is a Cook classic, especially favored by DJs and spin artists.
